About our founder
The Clinic of Angels was founded by Dr. Michael J. Cichon , a non-profit agency focused on helping chronically ill patients unable to afford critical treatments due to lack of financial resources or denials by their insurance companies.
Newly established in November 2005, the Clinic of Angels is the vision of Dr. Cichon, after over 30 years of caring for patients with a wide variety of complex, chronic illnesses. An interest with a subspecialty practice of infectious diseases, Dr. Cichon’s private practice is based in Temple Terrace, a suburb of the Greater Tampa Bay Area. In 1984, Dr. Cichon’s career turned towards a special interest in people suffering from chronic illnesses such as chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. He often developed newer therapies to improve their quality of life when cures could not be found.
Many of these patients with chronic ailments were a burden to other physicians because of the complexity of their diseases and the lack of easy answers or “quick fixes”. Caring for these patients evolved into a better understanding of their illnesses. Some of these patients actually had atypical forms of MS and ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). In 1999, an outbreak of Lyme disease occurred in Leesburg, Florida near the Ocala Forest. Subsequent tests were done on these patients finding that many had Lyme disease. Their illnesses were mimicking illnesses such as chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. Many had a wide array of various neurological impairments from seizures, to twitches, to severe neuropathies.
Dr. Cichon started treating patients with antibiotics in unique ways using IV Drugs and pulse therapies. His comprehensive and dynamic approaches to these complex illnesses started to help patients recover a greater quality and measure of their lives. Hopeless and progressively deteriorating patients began to regain productive, viable lives.
He often states that the true reward of medicine is found in helping people with new and promising therapies; as well as recognizing and diagnosing once misdiagnosed conditions. Through his comprehensive care and evaluations, Dr. Cichon continues to facilitate the diagnosis and recovery for countless chronic, persistent Lyme disease patients as well as many others with complex, insidious conditions.
Dr. Cichon continues to practice in Temple Terrace seeking new and better ways to treat people suffering from chronic conditions. Because of the cost increases and denials by insurance companies, many people have been denied therapy or are unable to seek some of these newer forms of therapy—therapies that may allow them to return to productive lives in society, not to mention a better quality of life and overall mental and physical well being.
