Bringing the World Together for Hope and Healing

The Clinic of Angels is excited to announce the kick off of what promises to be an adventurous, challenging and inspiring journey of 7 Marathons on 7 Continents.  Jim O’Brien, a 29 year old resident of Chicago , announced in November 2007 that he will join other avid runners in a marathon series that will take him around the globe, literally.

Jim shared that he learned of the work at Clinic of Angels through a college friend who happened to be the son of our founder, Dr. Michael J. Cichon.  He was inspired by stories of patients with highly complex illnesses finally seeing dramatic improvement under the care of Dr. Cichon, often with financial assistance from Clinic of Angels.

Jim chose Clinic of Angels, specifically, because he feels the parallels between what lies ahead of him athletically and the realities of what sicker, chronically ill patients are battling are striking.  Specifically, he noted that it is “all about the journey” not just about the end.  He also wanted to run for a smaller charity with which he had a personal connection and could see the impact on a grass roots level.

Much like chronic illness, Jim’s journey will require tenacity, resilience and courage to go through the ups and downs of training and varying race conditions.  In bittersweet irony, Jim will span the globe to test his athleticism and endurance in the very outdoors that countless Americans no longer have the health to enjoy.

Jim’s worldwide journey will include events in:

·                     Anchorage , Alaska on June 21, 2008

·                     Dublin , Ireland on October 27, 2008

·                     Hong Kong in February 2009

·                     Brisbane , Australia in July 2009

·                     Mt. Kilimanjaro , Tanzania in March of 2010

·                     Sao Paulo , Brazil in June 2010

·                     Final “Ice Marathon” in Antarctica in December 2010.

This final race will actually be 100 km or 62.1 miles in distance.

Jim plans on finishing 3 marathons and 1 ultra event measuring 32 miles in distance before heading off for the 7 / 7 Challenge.  He has made it clear that he will incur all of the expenses of his travels and hopes other driven runners will contact Clinic of Angels to join our Clinic of Angels Dream Team.  Runners can join Jim for one or all events.

We hope you will spread the word about this truly inspiring venture and contact us to be a single or corporate donor, member of our running team, or to sponsor a team member as they join Jim in raising sorely needed monies to continue our work of hope and healing for so many under-counted, under-treated, and under-represented patients.
